Breaking the Pencil

Well hello all!

My name is Juliana Mandile, a fellow student at the glorious Glendale Community College!

This is my last semester of community college, and from here I plan on transferring to ASU in pursuit of my Bachelors degree in English. Due to my degree choice, I was alerted that I needed a few more ENG 200 classes, so I decided that this class looked like a lot of fun! Little did I know that I was going to be able to be making weekly blog posts for all of you lovelies!

Forgive me if I sound sarcastic, I'm actually just a happy person who enjoys adding frivolous adjectives to my sentences.  With the occasional sassy comment. Or two. Or ten. I love making anything punny and cracking bad jokes at inappropriate times. It's a bad habit that I love. It also makes awkward situations all the more awkward!

In all seriousness though, some of my hobbies include reading as many novels as I can get my hands on. I will devour anything from journals to the most fantastical fiction imaginable. So long as it can keep my short attention span captured,  I'll be reading it. I enjoy my art, usually spending free moments sketching when I'm not in the ceramics studio attempting to create something beautiful. It rarely happens, but when it does, I'm ecstatic. I enjoy sewing and writing in my journal as well as cooking. I play games with friends and like to believe I'm a very well rounded person. (There's a pun there since I'm definitely not a skinny girl.)

I'm not very big on different languages. I can say "hello! My name is Juliana!" in a few different languages, but after that I'm lost. I took two semesters of ASL, but promptly forgot most of what I learned. Though you can still on occasions see me attempting to sign random words in conversations, or trying to spell out longer words with my fingers. I grew up very close to a Mexican family and so I can usually understand when I'm being yelled at or told to go and stand in a corner. I watch more anime than is good for me, so there are some Japanese words that I can pick out of a conversation, but I'm far from fluent. I've always wanted to learn other languages, I've just had trouble sticking to them before I want to go and do something else.

So that's me! I'm actually looking forward to posting every week and putting in my two cents on what I've been looking into! I hope that I don't bore any of my classmates (or offend my teacher) with my thoughts and comments!

Signing out!

Juliana Mandile

Hello Juliana! I like the way you write you have a good snap and a lot of voice. We got a few things in common, ceramics, sewing, journaling -and I think that's fun! Maybe we might see each other in the studio sometime! Look forward to reading more of your blogs! ^_^
And hearing your thoughts on this quirky course we got ourselves into.

ps. Your photo is cute! I wasn't expecting it, and thought when I saw it "awe that's sweet"

I really liked the way you write things out. I have no idea exactly how you sound, but I can see the passion behind it. Is is weird that I imagined an anime character talking? But I really enjoy anime too, its pretty much the only thing that I like to watch. I don't really watch any television shows, or tv for that matter. But it's cool to have an artistic side, I for one have no such thing. I enjoyed this post, it was funny.

I love that you're sassy and sarcastic, I too carry those traits. I think this class will be fun as well, I'm so glad to be in a class with people who enjoy English, it will make for great conversation and discussions I think!

Oh geez I thought this video was so interesting and funny. I personally try not to cuss but sometimes it's inevitable and it slips out.
